Watermelon Mint Lemonade, Bolthouse Farms - Aldi

Welp, I need a new CPU fan. My old one finally died on me and I need a new one or my PC will overheat. I’m hoping to pick one up on my way home from work tonight but in the meantime, let’s prevent my brain from overheating with some refreshing lemonade.

I know, I know, I’ve been reviewing a LOT of Aldi products lately, but it’s my go-to grocery store. I stop there twice a week to grab stuff for myself, my mom, and my grandpa. Since I’ve been reviewing so many Aldi products this week I figured I would take a break from their house branded items and try one of the name brand products they carry, like this summery Watermelon Mint Lemonade.

Bolthouse Farms Orange + Carrot Juice - Aldi

I don’t have the best eating habits. (Shocking, I know.) I eat frozen pizza 3-4 times a week and lately the only way I’ve been getting fruit into my diet is when I add it to waffle batter on the weekends. My typical routine is crazy and there’s no signs of it letting up any time soon, so squeezing vitamins, fruits and veggies into my diet any way I can is probably a good idea. The only catch is, it’s gotta taste good.

That whole green juice craze, where people puree raw kale with pretty much anything to make it not taste like sad wet lawn clippings, just doesn’t work for me. I tried it, and even though drinking one glass of that stuff tricked my brain into thinking I was magically healthier and somehow better for having done it, I never wanted to drink it again. I nursed the bottle I had until it reached room temperature and then I dumped it. (I’m sorry juice fanatics. I just couldn’t hang. I think kale is best eaten in savory chip form anyway.) Safe to say, the green juice route wasn’t for me, but what about orange? As in carrots. I like carrots. They’re sweet, and I could see that blending nicely with some fruit juices. Maybe this will be the juice for me.

Bolthouse Farms, Tropical Goodness - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

Even though I love Fall, it’s just going to have to wait a minute while I have my end-of-summer-crisis. I worked all summer! I barely went outside! I only went swimming in my own pool twice! It’s can’t be fall yet! On top of all that, I still have a decent amount of summery products to review, so let’s all pretend that it isn’t September this whole week, does that sound good?

Okay, with that out of the way, I’m going to kick back and drink some of this Tropical Goodness and forget that it’s technically September right now.

Bolthouse Farms Stone Fruit Smoothie - Aldi

Everything in my life has been non-stop for the last two weeks, I worked, drove to Baltimore, worked almost 30 hours that weekend selling my art, drove back from Baltimore, unpacked, went right back to day job…etc. So yesterday, I was finally able to come home from my day job and get some much needed rest. How did I celebrate? I cooked an entire package of bacon, and ate 75% of it all by myself.

Not my proudest moment (who am I kidding, I’m totally proud of it), but when I woke up this morning I needed to ingest something that wasn’t bacon. I figured, what’s better to de-bacon-ify myself with than a healthy fruit smoothie?

Bolthouse Farms Multi-Y Goodness Cherry -Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

I’ve reviewed quite a few flavors of these Bolthouse smoothies, and I like them a lot, but I only buy 2-3 bottles a year. It packs a lot of fruit into each serving, which is awesome for those of you on the go, but it’s a pretty pricey product. I know there are some people out there who drink one of these each day, and if you can afford that, all the more power to you, but I only buy these when they show up at Aldi. Like most name brand Aldi items, they come and go at random, so you’ll never know when they’ll be around and what flavors will be offered. Since they are kind of rare, when I see a new flavor, I just can’t help myself, so into the cart it went.

Bolthouse Farms Pumpkin Spice Latte - Aldi - Moorestown, NJ

I’m back! Thank you so much for your patience and understanding! My two student teaching observations went really well! If any of you are interested, you can see bits and pieces of my presentations, lessons, and resources HERE.

Time to get back to my pumpkin reviews! (I only have a few items left.)

I have reviewed Bolthouse Farms in the past and, although I wasn’t too impressed with their chai, I am a big fan of their fruit smoothies. I really hope that Bolthouse can do coffee better than tea, but I am going into this with pretty low expectations.

Unlike the bland Vanilla Chai Tea design, this bottle has some gorgeous coloring. There is a delicious latte-colored gradient that radiates from the label to create a cozy fall feeling, while still complimenting the seasonal items pictured at the bottom, and the drink itself has a rich pumpkin pie color. When combined, all of these elements create a classy seasonal feeling without looking like a cheap novelty. (A problem I have with a lot of seasonal products.)

If you aren’t familiar with this brand of smoothies/drinks, they are usually sold in two sizes:

  • A small single serve bottle (15 fl oz)
  • A large bottle (32 fl oz)
I couldn’t find this seasonal flavor in the smaller single serve size, which was a bit annoying. I don’t like committing to a huge bottle until I know that I like the product, and in this case I feel like I had no choice but to get the big bottle.
(Maybe they just didn’t have the smaller version in my area? Or they sold out? Was this flavor even released in the smaller bottle?)
I shook the bottle up, took off the cap, and took a whiff. My first reaction? This smells like actual pumpkin puree mixed with pumpkin spiced chai concentrate. (Which is awesome.) I can smell nutty pumpkin and the pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, cloves, etc.), but it seems like Bolthouse was a little heavy handed with the nutmeg. This smells very spiced, which I really like, but I can’t smell any hint of coffee.
I poured myself a glass and… it tasted just like it smelled. If I could liken it to anything, it’d be the Tazo chai mixture blended up with pumpkin puree and a bit of vanilla rice milk. The texture is very rich and creamy, similar to most bottled smoothies, and I imagine it would thin out a bit if it were heated up, but something isn’t quite right. Wasn’t this supposed to be a latte? Where is the coffee?
After I finished the whole cup I noticed a slightly bitter aftertaste, which is a little bit similar to coffee, but I can’t seem to find the latte-part of this “Pumpkin Latte.”
It may not taste like coffee, but it sure tastes pumpkin-y and delicious! I really like this drink, so my commitment to the large bottle paid off! (Thank goodness.)

On a Pumpkin Scale of 1-5 (5 being the most pumpkin-y) I’d give this a 4.5. It’s basically a pumpkin smoothie mixed with pumpkin spiced chai. It only loses .5 points due to the lack of coffee flavoring.
