UHA High Concentrated Milk Candy -Asian Food Market : Cherry Hill, NJ

Today I have some concentrated milk candy to review.

The packaging caught my eye right away because it was so plain. In a sea of bright colors, happy mascots, and pop stars, this pale pink box stood out. The packaging is made of cardboard, and it’s about the same size and shape as a pack of Starbursts. (Just a few inches shorter.) The design is very minimal, and the colors are quirky. The text is navy blue, the box is white, and there are green, pink, and red accents. This design doesn’t wow me, but it did draw my eye on the candy shelf because it looks so different from everything else.

Opening the candy, I was pleasantly surprised by the little sliding tray! Inside the cardboard tray, there are tiny puck-shaped candies wrapped in silver foil. Everything is really conveniently packaged and well put together. The candy wrapper designs are surprisingly playful. They have cute little cows doing human things. ( I seem to have a businessman-cow on this wrapper.)

The candy itself doesn’t seem to have any smell, but the foil wrapper does. It smells really metallic, which was a little off putting.

When I bought this candy I wasn’t sure what it would taste like. I have had milk candies from the Asian Food Market before, and I hated them. They sat around forever and no one wanted to eat them. I was thinking that these would be some sort of sweetened condensed milk candy, because “high concentrated milk” was written on the packaging…and I was right!

These little pucks are sweet, buttery, milky, goodness. They remind me of the salty milk flavored Chelsea I reviewed last year.

These candies are really delicious. I’m glad this tiny plain little box caught my eye.

CUCU Cute Cube Candy - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

This was a gift from my younger sister (check out her pixel Tumblr). She knew something called “Cute Cube Candy” would be right up my alley. (Also the math nerd in me likes that it has three C’s in the name like C^3)
The bag is a bright orange-red color with gold, blue, cream and coffee colors. The front of the bag doesn’t look very cute, but the back…has an adorable little cube dog! Although the dog is cute, the package design is still all over the place. I’m not really liking it.
Inside there are individually wrapped hard-candies. Peeling open the wrapper they are definitely cube shaped. Each cube is marbled with coffee and cream colors.
The candy has a creamy burnt sugar smell, but it isn’t strong.
The bag says that the flavor is meant to be brown sugar and milk…and that is exactly what these taste like! The brown sugar flavor is there and strong. Brown sugar, if you didn’t know, gets it’s flavor from molasses. (I LOVE molasses.) The rich molasses flavor mingles nicely with the creamy milk flavor.
Overall, these remind me of eating the “wet” ingredients in cookie dough (butter, brown sugar, and vanilla). The packaging is a little spastic, but this candy is delicious. These are definitely a hit!

Holiday Cookies 2011 - Last Year’s Cookie Swap

Last year I hosted my first ever cookie swap, and I’ll be doing it again this year.
Never heard of a cookie swap? You make 1 or 2 types of cookies (equaling 6 dozen), and you can swap a half-dozen or dozen cookies for another type of cookies from another person. Sometimes people give out prizes for best cookie, ugliest holiday sweater, or other silly things.
M party is just about eating yummy cookies and hanging out with great friends. Do any of you participate in cookie swaps during the holiday season?

Pumpkin Spice Milk - Wegman’s : Cherry Hill, NJ

I was buying groceries when this little bottle caught my eye. I have had this brand before and they make an AMAZING mint milk drink that tastes like melted ice cream. So I was really excited that they decided to make a pumpkin version. Is this better than the Aldi version?
While I loved this companies labels for their other flavors…this one is rather dull. I think the forest-green color they used really puts a hiccup into their overall design. I just…don’t really care for it. I wish it was a brown, or another harvest color.
It smells VERY sweet, sweeter than the Aldi variety, and has a very strong pumpkin pie aroma. It is also a lovely color, if you whipped up some pumpkin pie filling with milk it would be exactly this color.
As I poured it, I noticed the consistency was thinner than the Wegman’s variety. This one is less eggnog and more of an actual milk.
It tastes divine! Like I am literally drinking pumpkin pie. If I had to choose this or the Aldi version…it’d be a really difficult decision. The Aldi one is richer, and gives you more liquid for your money…but this pumpkin milk is a nice single portion and it is thinner.
I’d have to say the Aldi one wins, I could always dilute that with milk to get twice as much for my money and the same consistency.
On a pumpkin-y scale of 1-5 (5 being extremely pumpkin-y) I would rate this a 5!

Pumpkin Spice Milk - Aldi : Medford, NJ

That’s right! Pumpkin. Spice. Milk. This is something I had never seen before! I have seen plenty of pumpkin spiced coffee creamers, but this is meant to be a beverage on it’s own!
The carton is a step above no frills, three of the sides are the same and one side has the nutritional information. Once I saw the amount of calories per serving I knew….this is a pumpkin version of eggnog!
The liquid is thick, when you pour it you can see that it is the same consistency as eggnog, but the scent is just like pumpkin pie. The color is pretty spot-on for pumpkin pie filling as well.
It smells…like pumpkin pie filling. What I really like is that this doesn’t just smell like pumpkin spice, this smells like an actual pie. Which is something unlike any of the other pumpkin items I have had so far.
The drink is very rich and creamy. I can taste pumpkin, spices, and sweet cream. This is literally like drinking a slice of pie with whipped cream on top. This is amazing and I HIGHLY recommend it for pumpkin lovers!
I think this is an amazing product, the perfect eggnog equivalent for October and November. (This would be great to have with Thanksgiving dinner!)

On a pumpkin-y scale of 1-5 (5 being extremely pumpkin-y) I would rate this a 4.5! That makes this the highest rated pumpkin item so far!

Soft and Chewy Pumpkin Spice Cookies - Aldi : Medford, NJ

My boyfriend enjoys soft chewy cookies and pumpkin, so this HAD to make it’s way into my cart.
The box is very simple, and almost no frills. Not terrible, but nothing I would leave out on display. Since the cookies are soft, they are packaged in a silver bag and tray inside the box to maintain freshness. Which is a very good thing, because the icing is so soft that if they were packaged loose, it’d make a HUGE mess.
These cookies are a lot like the pumpkin pie bagel I got at Panera, the smell is more like a spicy pumpkin bread. This time I think they were a little more heavy handed with the nutmeg, which is something I like.
Soft and dense, these actually remind me of a carrot cake. Which isn’t a bad thing, as you chew the cookie the distinct pumpkin pie flavors come through and mix well with the soft icing. These are REALLY nice with a tall glass of cold milk.

On a pumpkin-y scale of 1-5 (5 being extremely pumpkin-y) I would rate this a 1.5

Meiji Almond Meltykiss - Asian Food Market, NJ

Another special flavor of Meiji Almond, this time it is Meltykiss. What is it? Judging from the box it looks like an almond is first coated in white chocolate, then in milk chocolate, and finished with cocoa-powder. Sounds good to me!

I like the look of this box much more than the Crispy Puff one. This design is more elegant with the blue and white ribbons and gold writing. The only thing I don’t like is that when you open the box, you have to rip the front open. I prefer the drawer-style opening from the Crispy Puff box.

This time the smell is stronger, I can smell dry cocoa-powder, the candies are matte and larger than the Crispy Puff almonds. (Which makes sense, these are double coated.)

The chocolate tastes a bit darker than I expected. It isn’t a full-blown dark chocolate, but the cocoa-powder adds a nice richness to it. The white coating seems to be milk, not a white chocolate confection, but it tastes just like milk! It is so interesting. Both coatings are velvety and melt right in your mouth. All of that combined with a crunchy almond? Amazing.

I loved these! (A lot more than the Crispy Puff ones!) This is another example where Meiji products taste like gourmet treats!

For the next few weeks I will be reviewing more Asian sweets! Why? Because in two weeks time I will be attending Otakon, an Asian Pop culture convention. I’ll be there July 26th through July 29th selling some of my artwork and jewelry.
To keep with the Asian theme, I grabbed a bunch of snacks from the local Asian grocery store.
Tons of photos and reviews coming up! I hope you’re as excited as I am.

Kinder Bar

A long time ago my friend Kevin bought a ton of random candies for some college marketing assignment. Kinder was one of them. I am no stranger to Kinder and their products. I have eaten several of their products while traveling in Europe (and Eastern Europe.)

Their products tend to be milky, sweet and more-often-than-not has hazelnut fillings. This bar is no exception.

The packaging is… well it is scary. That child scares me. I like the typography and layout but the expression on the little boy’s face is…unsettling.

Inside were several super sweet milk-chocolate bars with a milky filling.

Not the most amazing candies I have ever had, but I can never pass on a Kinder product.
