Chelsea packs - Asian Food Market

Before, I couldn’t really read the Chelsea packages, so I wasn’t sure what flavors I was getting. I knew I was getting butterscotch and yogurt in these, but not in THIS bag.
So, I have already tasted and reviewed these candies. I figured I’d post these photos anyway because the packaging is just beautiful. There are great to toss into my purse when I am on the go.
Same delicious candy, but now they are in a different package. Read the flavor reviews HERE.

Chelsea Assort (Yogurt, Butter and Coffee) - Asian Food Market

So far I have had Chelsea’s Patisserie mix, and the Salty mix. This bag seems to be a more traditional mix of flavors. Seems like it has butter, coffee and yogurt.
The bag is black with bright colored flowers. This time the color choices remind me of the 70’s. The trippy patterns are reminiscent of Sid and Marty Krofft. It’s gaudier than the other two bags of candy, but I do like the pattern a lot.
Inside are individually wrapped candies, this time the colors and flavors are…
  • Green, yogurt flavor - Inside the wrapper the candy is translucent and smells like actual yogurt. At first the candy tasted like cream soda, but it slowly becomes more tangy. It starts to taste like a really good, tart, frozen yogurt.
  • Pink, butter flavor - This time the candy is a warm caramel color. It has the faint smell of burnt sugar. The translation I found said that is was “butter flavor” so I wasn’t sure what to expect…but it is a brilliant butterscotch. I honestly think it is the best butterscotch hard candy I have ever had. It has warm buttery notes with hints of burnt sugar.
  • Brown, coffee flavor - A rich chocolatey color, it smells like dark roasted coffee beans. I was a bit shocked, when I first put it in my mouth it was like taking a sip of black coffee! After sitting on your tongue it starts to get sweeter and a little creamier. Almost like I just adding milk and sugar to a real mug of coffee! This was amazing I can’t read what is on the bag, but there is a picture of coffee and a number 1. I can only assume that this is a very popular flavor, and rightfully so! I think my coffee addicted boyfriend would really like this one.
I wasn’t a fan of the Salty mix, but this classic mix definitely gives the Patisserie blend a run for it’s money. I would buy this any day!

Meiji Chelsea, Salty Mix- Asian Food Market, NJ

After falling in love with Chelsea’s patisserie mix I ran out and grabbed other flavors to try. Now, I couldn’t tell what flavors were in this bag, because there isn’t any English. I google’d them and found out that this is the “Salty” mix bag with salty milk and salty chocolate.
The bag has the beautiful flower patterns associated with Chelsea. I love it! It seems retro, but graceful. There is no image indication that this is the salty flavor pack, no images of salt or mention of it in the ingredients list. Without looking this up online, I’d really have no clue what the flavors were supposed to be.
In classic Chelsea fashion, each candy is individually wrapped in a patterned wrapper. Red is salty-chocolate and light blue is salty-milk.
The salty-chocolate flavor smells like chocolate instant pudding. When I first taste it, it seems like a typical chocolate hard candy. It isn’t as deeply flavored as the chocolate mousse from the patisserie mix, but it is very satisfying. After about a minute you start to taste the salt. It isn’t overwhelming, but it’s a mild saltiness that helps cut the sweet chocolate taste. It really tastes like instant pudding with a bit of salt sprinkled on top. Not bad, but I prefer the chocolate mousse flavor from the other bag.
Time for salty-milk. The name alone isn’t appealing, but maybe this candy would be delicious! (You never know.) This time there is o0 scent at all to the candy. The first thing I taste is a classic butter scotch with warm toasty sugar notes. Then that fades off into a sweet milky taste. It reminds me a lot of warm milk with honey. After a minute or two a salty flavor starts to appear, but it is mild. The overall flavor reminds me of a butterscotch ice cream topping.
These were yummy, but I prefer the variety of the patisserie blend flavors. Salty candy is interesting, but I wouldn’t buy a bag of these again.

Meiji Chelsea Patisserie Mix - Asian Food Market, NJ

This is my second bag. The first one was devoured before I could even take photos for a review. I think you guys know this is going to be a good one.

Chelsea is a classic candy that has been around for years! They are different types of flavored butterscotch. This specific bag is a patisserie mix of cheese cake, apple compote, and chocolate mousse.

The bag is adorable! Look at the lovely floral patterns and colors! This looks like a lolita skirt made into a candy bag. I LOVE it.

Inside are little individually wrapped hard candies. Purple is chocolate, pink is apple, and yellow is cheese cake. Even the individual wrappers are adorable!

First up, cheesecake. The candy is a soft buttery color and smells like a lemony cheesecake. The flavor is amazing! I can taste lemon zest, sweet cheese and even a graham cracker crust! The overall flavor is more like an Italian cheese pie, but I am not complaining. These are amazing. I feel like this is something out of Willy Wonka. I made everyone I know try this flavor.

Next, chocolate mousse. The butterscotch is dark and chocolatey colored. It smells like dark coffee and chocolate pudding. The chocolate notes are darker and richer than most chocolate hard candies. It tastes rich and wonderful. I can taste coffee, chocolate and burnt sugar. This is a mature chocolate candy.

Last, but not least, is the apple compote. The candy is a cinnamon-y red color. The candy smells like roasted apples. It has a bright, but concentrated, apple scent that reminds me of apple pie filling. The first thing you taste is apple cider, but that quickly melts away into a creamy apple pastry flavor. This tastes like I am eating an apple pie. It is insane!

These candies are delicious. They have made me interested in the whole Chelsea line. If you couldn’t tell already, I think these candies are amazing! I am stocking up just in case these flavors go out of production.
