Key Lime Cheesecake Doughnut -Krispy Kreme : Collingswood, NJ

The original, glazed, Krispy Kreme doughnuts are amazing, but their seasonal flavors have always been a bit of a let down. Right now the company is promoting 2 different key lime donuts: Key Lime Cake and Key Lime Cheesecake. Since key lime is one of my favorite flavors, I am giving these a shot.

This cheesecake-doughnut is topped with graham cracker pieces and a tangy lime icing. Inside, there is supposed to be a creamy key-lime-cheesecake filling.

Now, when I took a bite I could taste the toppings and the cake doughnut, but there was no filling. The dough is fluffy and sweet, like a traditional Krispy Kreme, and the toppings add a nice graham cracker texture and flavor, but there was barely any lime. It took several bites before I managed to find anything inside. Once I did find some filling, there was only about a tablespoon’s worth. It was surprisingly tangy and delicious, but there wasn’t enough to give me a real ‘key lime’ flavor. This ended up tasting like a graham cracker doughnut.

I got a bum doughnut. I’m not happy with the filling to doughnut ratio, but I could see this being really yummy with the proper amount of filling.

Meiji Chelsea Patisserie Mix - Asian Food Market, NJ

This is my second bag. The first one was devoured before I could even take photos for a review. I think you guys know this is going to be a good one.

Chelsea is a classic candy that has been around for years! They are different types of flavored butterscotch. This specific bag is a patisserie mix of cheese cake, apple compote, and chocolate mousse.

The bag is adorable! Look at the lovely floral patterns and colors! This looks like a lolita skirt made into a candy bag. I LOVE it.

Inside are little individually wrapped hard candies. Purple is chocolate, pink is apple, and yellow is cheese cake. Even the individual wrappers are adorable!

First up, cheesecake. The candy is a soft buttery color and smells like a lemony cheesecake. The flavor is amazing! I can taste lemon zest, sweet cheese and even a graham cracker crust! The overall flavor is more like an Italian cheese pie, but I am not complaining. These are amazing. I feel like this is something out of Willy Wonka. I made everyone I know try this flavor.

Next, chocolate mousse. The butterscotch is dark and chocolatey colored. It smells like dark coffee and chocolate pudding. The chocolate notes are darker and richer than most chocolate hard candies. It tastes rich and wonderful. I can taste coffee, chocolate and burnt sugar. This is a mature chocolate candy.

Last, but not least, is the apple compote. The candy is a cinnamon-y red color. The candy smells like roasted apples. It has a bright, but concentrated, apple scent that reminds me of apple pie filling. The first thing you taste is apple cider, but that quickly melts away into a creamy apple pastry flavor. This tastes like I am eating an apple pie. It is insane!

These candies are delicious. They have made me interested in the whole Chelsea line. If you couldn’t tell already, I think these candies are amazing! I am stocking up just in case these flavors go out of production.
